  • Unusual Lots up for Grabs

    20th April 2009

A Victorian parish room, a former study centre and a caravan with stunning views are some of the more unusual lots coming under the hammer in Brecon at the end of the month.

“We sell all sorts of properties of all shapes and sizes at auction,” said Ryan Williams, of McCartneys who is conducting the sale. “But to have three unique lots with such potential up for sale on one night is rather rare.”

The Victorian parish room at Merthyr Cynog served the local community as both the village school and church hall. It now has full planning permission for conversion into a house and has a guide price at auction of £60,000.

The former study centre has a guide price of £75,000. It is in a beautiful spot on the outskirts of Talybont on Usk and, subject to planning consents, is suitable for a whole range of uses.

The mobile home sits in 2 acres at Garthbrengy near Brecon and has far reaching views over the surrounding countryside.

“With a guide price of £80,000, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a smallholding at an affordable price,” commented Ryan. “The mobile home may be in a poor state of repair, but it has the benefit of a Certificate of Lawfulness for the local planning authority, which means has much the same effect as planning permission.

The auction should be a lively event. There seems to be a great deal of interest in these more unusual lots, and there is other land and property to be sold on the night, so we’re expecting a good turnout.”

The auction will be held at Brecon Livestock Market on 29th April at 6pm. For more details contact Ryan Williams at McCartneys on 01497 820778 or 07971 289368.
  • Maunsel White Park and British White Cattle to be Dispersed

    15th April 2009

The largest herd of White Park Cattle in the country (and probably the world) will come under the hammer at Worcester Livestock Market on Saturday, 23rd May 2009.

Sir Benjamin Slade's noted Maunsel herd totalling 300 head is to be dispersed following a change in farming policy and will offer breeders and enthusiasts an unrivalled opportunity to select and purchase cattle with origins dating back to 1210AD.

The White Park breed has long been an integral part of the British livestock scene, with the current Breed Society being formed in 1946 to further the individual interests of the breed. The conservation group, the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, has a continuing interest in the breed and classifies the White Park as "at risk" on their category lisiting.

The dispersal sale at Worcester on 23rd May, which will also include 30 British White Cattle, will not only be the end of an era for Sir Benjamin Slade's association with both the White Park and British White breeds, but it will enable these rare and scarce bloodlines to be dispersed into established and newly formed herds, enabling the breed to continue its fight for existence in these modern times.

Clive Roads, auctioneer and partner at McCartneys, who will conduct the sale commented, "This exciting dispersal of the largest herd of White Park cattle in the country should prove a real boost for established and new breeders enabling them to augment their herds with unusual and sought after bloodlines and should not be missed."

Further details and catalogues can be obtained from McCartneys LLP, The Heath Meadow, Nunnery Way, Worcester, WR4 0SQ. Tel: 01905 769770 Fax: 01905 769772

    ECSFDI Capital Grant Scheme 2009/10
CSF Capital Grant Schemes have been offered previously annually in 2007 and 2008 to support land managers in priority catchments in England by providing grant aid towards the improvement or installation of facilities that would benefit water quality by reducing diffuse pollution.

Due to continuing success and high demand from farmers, it has been decided to offer a third one-year CSF Capital Grant Scheme in 2009/10. This will be similar to the 2008-09 scheme in the items supported, but there are significant changes in the application process. These will include a shorter application period, and an earlier application window. This is designed to ensure that successful applicants have more time to complete capital works during the summer, when the weather conditions are at their best. The 2009/10 scheme will be open to farmers in the new and expanded priority catchments added in October 2008.

The application window will then run from 2nd March 2009 to 30th April 09.
